Help Support the Adelphi Dance Team go to UDA Camp!

This week, the Adelphi Dance Team hosted their second annual audition prep clinic at Woodruff Hall Half Court. The purpose of the clinic is to introduce potential team members to the current team and show them what is expected of a member.
Attendees paid $20 for the clinic, which included stretch and warm up, technique, and choreography from special guest, Dani Bradle, head coach of Stony Brook University Dance Team. Current team members helped teach attendees leaps, turns, and tricks by demonstrating technical moves including switch leaps, tilt jumps, a la seconde turns, aerials, kip ups, and headsprings.
Dani choreographed a jazz routine to the song “Horns” by Bryce Fox. The routine gave dancers the opportunity to show off their technical skills while still allowing them to display their stylistic elements that make them unique as dancers.

“The clinic was a bit intimidating but the choreography was so fun. I feel like I did a great job with the improv after the routine and I can’t wait to audition!”
Sammi, high school senior and incoming Adelphi Student
Eleven new students showed up to the prep clinic, over double the amount of current team members. Attendees included high school juniors and seniors as well as current Adelphi students.
“It’s very exciting to see so many incoming students are interested in joining our team. I can’t wait to start another great season.”
Briana Barczik, rising senior on the Adelphi Dance Team

This weekend, the Adelphi University Dance Team performed at Suffolk County Community College for the East Coast Conference 10th Annual Spirit Showcase. The event gathers cheerleading and dance teams from long island and raises proceeds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Adelphi’s dance team performed alongside teams such as Molloy College, Queens College, and Suffolk County Community College. Adelphi performed two routines, a jazz routine called “Dem Beats” and a pom routine.
The showcase also included raffles and prizes. Each performing team donated a gift basket to be raffled off. Adelphi Dance Team donated a movie-themed gift basket including two AMC movie tickets, popcorn, candy, and other movie-themed snacks. The event raised over $3,000 for the foundation.
The showcase opened up with a few words from Make-A-Wish Director of Operations, Melissa Wilko. Melissa welcomed attendees and introduced Wish Kid Delaney, a young girl who had won her battle with Osteosarcoma. Delaney spoke about her battle with cancer and her experience with Make a Wish.
“I want to be an inspiration,” she said, “If you don’t give up easily really anything is possible.” Delaney spoke about her wish to go surfing in Hawaii and she spoke about how the wish gave her the strength to make it through her battle.
Delaney performed a solo routine at the showcase and received a “full house standing ovation.”
